QuickPort Dongle

Small, powerful USB-C bridge that connects your iPhone to embedded devices.

What It Does

The QuickPort Dongle is the physical bridge between your iPhone and embedded hardware. It handles USB-to-Ethernet conversion and provides breakout pins for UART, I²C, and RS-485.

Plug it in, and it just works — no configuration, no driver installation.

Key Specs

  • Connection: USB-C to iPhone
  • Interfaces: UART, I²C, RS-485
  • Protocol: CDC-ECM (USB Ethernet)
  • Power: Bus-powered from iPhone

Technical Specifications

UART Interface

  • Baud Rates: 300 to 921600 bps
  • Data Bits: 7, 8
  • Parity: None, Even, Odd
  • Stop Bits: 1, 2
  • Flow Control: RTS/CTS (hardware), XON/XOFF (software)
  • Logic Levels: 3.3V (confirm)

I²C Interface

  • Modes: Master
  • Speed: Standard (100 kHz), Fast (400 kHz)
  • Addressing: 7-bit and 10-bit
  • Pull-ups: Onboard configurable
  • Logic Levels: 3.3V

RS-485 Interface

  • Differential: Full-duplex or half-duplex
  • Termination: Optional 120Ω onboard
  • Isolation: TBD (if any)
  • Max Distance: Up to 1200m (depending on baud)
  • Nodes: Up to 32 devices on bus

Power & Protection

  • Power Source: USB-C (from iPhone)
  • Current Draw: ~50-100mA typical
  • ESD Protection: Yes (confirm rating)
  • Overcurrent: Built-in protection
  • Indicator LED: Power/status

Connectors & Pinout

USB-C Port (Host)

Connects to your iPhone or iPad. Compliant with USB 2.0 specification, using CDC-ECM for Ethernet-over-USB.

Target Interface Connector

Standard 2.54mm (0.1") pitch header or JST connector (confirm specific type).

UART Pins:

  • • TX (Transmit)
  • • RX (Receive)
  • • RTS (Request to Send)
  • • CTS (Clear to Send)
  • • GND

I²C Pins:

  • • SDA (Data)
  • • SCL (Clock)
  • • GND
  • • VCC (3.3V)

RS-485 Pins:

  • • A+ (Differential +)
  • • B- (Differential -)
  • • GND

Important: Always verify voltage levels match your target device. The dongle operates at 3.3V logic. Use level shifters if your target requires 5V or other voltages.
